29.05.2017

The fourteenth edition of Documenta comprises two of Andrzej Wroblewski’s works – Mother with dead child 1949, from Grazyna Kulczyk’s collection, and Execution against a wall, (Execution IV) 1949, from the Polish Army Museum in Warsaw. The exhibition is titled “Learning from Athens” and will last until 16 July.

For the first time in history Documenta takes place not only in Kassel, but also in Athens. The curator of the exhibition emphasizes that the Greek location is a symbolic point on the borders between Europe, Asia and Africa. The mastermind behind the new location is the festival’s artistic director, Adam Szymczak. Andrzej Wróblewski is one of 160 international artists whose works can be seen in more than 40 places in Athens: in cinemas, libraries and also in the open air. Adam Szymczak also chose some other Polish artists and their works, such as Erna Rosenstein’s canvases, Alina Szapocznikow’s sculptures as well as Artur Żmijewski’s and Piotr Uklański’s works.

Documenta is held since 1955, every five years in Kassel, Germany. The initiator of the exhibition was the artist and curator Arnold Bode. Each exhibition lasts exactly 100 days.

The second part of of Documenta 14 opens in Kassel on 10 June and will last until 17 September 2017.
